Gear Up is a system that helps an entrepreneur to launch a product that can create a new market or disrupt an existing market. It has been used by founders of startup companies and by leaders of large companies, government organizations, and universities who are launching disruptive products and services.  It has been applied in Silicon Valley, Sweden, China, Vietnam, and by members of the NUS College in Silicon Valley Program who are now working on new ventures in Singapore. It is based on a book that is in beta, and will be published in digital form before the end of the year.

There is considerable interest among policy-makers in measuring the entrepreneurial character of nations. A number of approaches and indices have been proposed for the study of the question. But what is an ‘entrepreneurial economy’? In this talk, Professor Erkko Autio reviews different approaches to measuring the entrepreneurial character of nations and discusses their merits and weaknesses. He will conclude by proposing a policy-oriented conceptual definition for the concept of an ‘entrepreneurial nation’.
